2025 is officially over for the Kansas City Chiefs. All you have to do is turn the lights out on Arrowhead Stadium at the end of the season, which will be in late December, early January. Yesterday coming into the game, the Kansas City Chiefs were a favorite in this game and also we're a pretty sharp side. The public climbing on to the Chargers, saying, oh, Kansas City is not the same team, give them points and wait to see how this game played out. Kansas City had a lead 7 to 3 at the end of the first quarter. And as I said to start the show. Patrick Mahomes did have a 12-yard touchdown run. So, you know what, play good defense, live the fight another day, see what happens. This game was back and forth the entire way, but did you know, Joe, Kansas City didn't score a single point in the second half. Kansas City had a chance to drive down the field late in the 4th quarter to either tie or take the lead, and devastation happened. Patrick Mahomes rolled out of the pocket, that knee caught in the grass, sort of. splintered, it looks like where it has one of those like over like corrections of your knee. You knew it was bad right away, stayed on the turf. Turns out a torn ACL for Patrick Mahomes in December. Chiefs out of the playoffs at Team Joe, usually makes the Super Bowl, Definitely makes the AFC championship game, and usually holds the number one overall seed. None of that is the case. They're missing the playoffs altogether. That's incredible. Yeah, it it's, and and I we have to remember too here, and it's unfortunate that this, you know, this had to take place with Mahomes here, because who knows how long it's going to run into next season as well, but, you know, the Chiefs have not been bad. But since he got there, I, I, you know, since him and Andy Reid have gotten there, I mean, there's only some, at some point, this was going to go the other way. And listen, it happened with Brady in New England, right? It it's happening with Mahome. There's only so much Andy Reid can do, right? I mean, the offensive line is not good. They can't run the ball. They don't have a true number one wide receiver. 36 year old Travis. Nothing was going well this season, and this just puts an exclamation point on what was inevitably going to happen, Donnie, as much as we like to think it's never gonna, it's never gonna come down, it, it was, it was going to happen. It's just unfortunate that Mahomes had to get hurt during what was, you know, maybe the first time in a long time that we're not going to be talking about the Chiefs come this postseason. And by the way, credit the Chargers get another 1 score game that they won. They got picked up their 10th win of the season in freezing cold conditions for a dome team with a quarterback, yes, still playing with a broken hand. 29 carries for 94 yards on the ground, led by Omari and Hampton, 15 carries for 61 yards. Keep in mind, he came back last week. That was the guy that was supposed to be that lead back all season long. Maybe some fresh legs heading into the playoffs, but they didn't have to do much because you're right, Joe. Kansas City is a shell of its former self. When we go back to the Tyreek Hill days, it was 4 plays, 68 yards, and a touchdown before your head could spin. Oh, you have the Chiefs down 2 touchdowns. Within 5 minutes, they actually have the lead back. We've seen that in playoff games against light competition. But when you look at the Chiefs' offense as it goes, you just can't survive in the NFL. I don't care who your quarterback is, wide receivers or running backs. If 4 to 5 starters are down on the offensive line at any given time, which you saw again yesterday. Coming with 3 guys down, immediately another guy gets hurt on the offensive line. You just can't sustain that, and they couldn't do it yesterday. Mahomes, 16 of 28, 189, no touchdown passes. The previous week, Joe, what was it, 3 interceptions and no touchdown passes. You can't survive without a good offensive line. I don't care how good your quarterback is or your head coach is here. Shout out Travis Kelsey, 7 catches for 70 yards, tried to do his best, but they had nothing going on offense because they couldn't block, Joe. Oh, well, no running game, and that's the problem. You'd think they would have learned their lesson after that loss a year ago, but instead, Donnie, they kind of doubled down on the passing game, instead of trying to fix the issues with the running game. You need a running game in the NFL guys, any which way you cut it, uh, and you can only mask those deficiencies only so long, so. And now you got your franchise quarterback out, not all the rest of this year, who knows how in the last year. Uh it's a good offensive line when healthy, Donnie, uh, and they'll be good next year, but they've, they've got a lot of decisions they gotta make. They gotta get, they gotta get a real running game back in, in play, no matter who who the quarterback is next year.
