7. David Njoku
The Browns organization has been a mess for many years, but Njoku is a very good player, and he will have a veteran QB to get him the football. Njoku is going to be the number one or number two target in the passing game, though, and should put up solid numbers across the board.
NFL: The Top Five Tight Ends Heading Into The Season
These are seven tight ends you need to draft in fantasy football this year.
1. Brock Bowers
Bowers had an incredible rookie season for the Raiders and was able to do it all with average, or even below average, QB play. This season, he gets an upgrade with Geno Smith coming to town, and although he might be able to replicate his monster numbers from a year ago (few can), he should still lead everyone at the position in yards and receptions.
2. Trey McBride
McBride presents a matchup nightmare for almost any defense he goes up against, and even with Marvin Harrison Jr. on the roster, McBride is still the favorite target of QB Kyler Murray. He didn’t score many TDs last season, but that could change. What we do know is that he will rack up plenty of yards and receptions.
3. George Kittle
Kittle might be the best TE in the league in terms of his ability to both block and be a weapon in the offense. So, although guys ranked behind him like Hockenson, LaPorta, Engram, Kelce, etc, might put up better receiving numbers, he is an all-around better TE right now than all of them.
4. Sam LaPorta
His sophomore season wasn’t as strong as his rookie season, but LaPorta is still one of the most talented receiving TEs in the NFL. The Lions are a loaded offense, and LaPorta is a huge part of their passing game. He also makes a big impact in run blocking.
5. TJ Hockenson
When Hockenson returned from his injury last season, he quickly became one of the top targets in the Vikings offense. With a young and inexperienced QB in Minnesota this season, Hockenson is likely to be used as a safety net and should see plenty of targets, specifically in the red zone.
6. Travis Kelce
Kelce is more of a big name now than he is an elite TE. He is getting up there in age and doesn’t have the same impact that he once did. Still, he is one of the best to ever play the position, and he can still be relied upon to make big plays in crucial situations and help the Chiefs move the chains.
