MLB Best Bets Today: Wednesday’s Top 2 Betting Picks (August 27)

There is no stopping us now. The MLB season and summer are fully underway, meaning there are betting opportunities every day between now and October. We’ve got you covered for Wednesday’s baseball schedule!

Where to Watch Minnesota Twins vs. Toronto Blue Jays

  • Ballpark: Rogers Centre
  • Location: Toronto, ON
  • Where to Watch: MNNT, Sportsnet
  • Time: 7:07 p.m. ET
  • Spread: TOR -1.5 (+114) | Total: 9 (-114/-106)
  • Moneyline: MIN +152 | TOR -180

The Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays will close out their season series from Canada on Wednesday. On the hill, expect to see a clash of styles in RHP Simeon Woods Richardson versus LHP Eric Lauer.

If you tailed us on either Monday or Tuesday, you already know that we’ve been supporting overs in Toronto’s games for some time. Currently, the over has converted in 58.3% (74-53-6) of all Blue Jays games in 2025. That clip is even better when playing at Rogers Centre, which shows 39-24-2 (61.9%). Genuinely, it has been a fun streak to ride, and I intend to remain steady.

Woods Richardson has been so-so this season, as exemplified by his 4.72 FIP. However, his 10% walk rate is less than ideal. Across the way, Lauer has done well for his first season with Toronto. He boasts a 3.54 FIP while striking out 8.9 hitters per nine innings.

Still, with the way the Jays (.766 OPS) are swinging it, I think we see a double-digit run total at Rogers Centre for the third consecutive day. Further out, the Twins-Blue Jays have produced an average of 10.8 combined runs per game through five contests in 2025. Let’s hope for more of that in this midweek tilt.

Best Bet: Over 9 (-114)

Where to Watch Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals

  • Ballpark: Busch Stadium
  • Location: St. Louis, MO
  • Where to Watch: FDSNMW, FS1
  • Time: 7:45 p.m. ET
  • Spread:  STL -1.5 (+120) | Total: 7.5 (-102/-120)
  • Moneyline: PIT +146 | STL -174

Out in the NL Central, the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals are underway in their final head-to-head series of the season. For projected starters, right-handers Sonny Gray and Carmen Mlodzinski will take the lead at Busch Stadium.

It will be a muggy evening in The Lou, but that is not at all unusual for this time of year. Gray will look to go deep against a team from Pittsburgh that is tagged with MLB’s lowest OPS: .659. Showing a 1.19 WHIP in 2025, I like Gray’s chances. Conversely, Mlodzinski (1.30 WHIP) will go for the Pirates in an opener role, but we could see him for as long as four innings. Overall, Pittsburgh’s bullpen has a 4.14 ERA, which ranks in the bottom third of the majors.

This season, St. Louis has twice covered the run line against the Buccos when playing at home. Given the way aspects are lined up on Wednesday, I believe the Cards can do precisely that. The pitching matchup strongly favors the home side here. Additionally, St. Louis may not be the most feared lineup, but its .710 OPS is significantly superior to Pittsburgh’s.

Prepare for this contest to be scrappy. Neither team is headed to the playoffs in 2025, and as divisional foes, both squads will be competing for pride. And when it comes to the Red Birds, they are certainly a proud baseball culture; I’m looking at St. Louis to win by multiple runs tonight.

Best Bet: Cardinals -1.5 (+120)
