Tigers vs. Rays: Spencer Torkelson Over 0.5 Home Runs +500
The Detroit Tigers have emerged as one of the top teams in the MLB. While their pitching has been magnificent, we see a ton of value in backing Spencer Torkelson as a home run hitter on Friday night versus the Tampa Bay Rays.
Shane Baz takes the ball for the Rays in the series opener. Baz is coming off a dominant performance, but he has been prone to hard contact this season. His 9.9% barrel rate ranks in the 27th percentile, and his 41.9% hard-hit rate relegates him to the 43rd percentile. Moreover, Baz’s stuff doesn’t typically play well in the hitter-friendly confines of George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Torkelson will have no problem feasting on Baz’s offerings. He is among the best at launching pitches, ranking in the 94th percentile in launch angle/sweet spot contact. Moreover, his expected slugging percentage remains above expected, pointing toward inevitable progression.
The Tigers should have no problem getting to Baz and Torkelson to lead the charge. At +500, everyone should get a piece of the Tigers’ slugger as a home run hitter.

Brewers vs. Twins: Christian Yelich Over 1.5 Bases +135
Over the past few days, Christian Yelich has regained his former MVP form. The Milwaukee Brewers slugger is poised to continue his ascent versus Joe Ryan and the Minnesota Twins.
Yelich has been unstoppable at the plate. Over the last three games, he has recorded six hits, with three going for extra bases. With a 49.2% hard-hit rate and his elite bat speed, Yelich should continue to round into mid-season form versus the Twins.
Ryan will facilitate that ongoing growth. The Twins starter is one of the worst in the majors at giving up solid contact. He ranks in the seventh percentile in barrel rate, getting socked 12.2% of the time. Not surprisingly, Ryan has allowed two home runs and seven extra-base hits over his last three starts.
Yelich is primed to continue his assault versus Ryan and the Twins. Others may gravitate toward Yelich as a home run hitter, but we expect him to get at least two bases on Friday night.
