The Boston Red Sox asserted themselves as contenders, taking three of four from the New York Yankees this weekend. They’ll be looking to sustain that streak in Monday’s series opener versus the Baltimore Orioles

Curiously, Boston’s surge in scoring is contraindicated in its underlying metrics. Despite seeing an uptick in scoring over the past couple of weeks, the Red Sox’s underlying metrics are on the decline. The AL wild card frontrunners have seen a 16-point dip in OPS, with their slugging percentage tanking over 30 points.

At the same time, the O’s have seen a surge in their offensive production. Baltimore put up 24 runs over its last five games, thanks to improving on-base and slugging percentages. Those numbers should continue to rise against the Red Sox bullpen on Monday.

Red Sox relievers have done some heavy lifting recently, totaling 12.0 innings pitched over their previous four contests. Without any days off, the typically stout bullpen could be in for a long day at Camden Yards. We’re taking a stance on the underdog home squad, backing the Orioles on the moneyline.

Best Bet: Orioles -102

Where to Watch Tampa Bay Rays vs. Cleveland Guardians

  • Ballpark: Progressive Field
  • Location: Cleveland, OH
  • Where to Watch: FDSSUN, CLEG, Fox Sports 1
  • Time: 6:40 p.m. ET
  • Spread: CLE -1.5 | Total: 7.5
  • Moneyline: CLE -120 | TB +102

The Tampa Bay Rays are doing the bare minimum to stay in the playoff conversation, but they aren’t out of it yet. They face a pivotal clash versus a team they are chasing in the standings, and we give the edge to the Rays over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night.

Tampa Bay’s bats have finally come alive. Bolstered by the promotion of Carson Williams, the Rays put up 21 runs across their three-game set versus the Cardinals. More importantly, sustained scoring appears to be an inevitability. The playoff hopefuls are slugging .466 over the past week, bumping their OPS to .823.

We’re not expecting Tanner Bibee to slow the Rays down. The Guardians’ probable starter has given up four or more runs in six straight starts. Further, opponents have taken him yard in all but one of those contests, with Bibee giving up six homers across 33.1 innings pitched.

Bibee is having a hard time keeping the ball in play, and the Rays are raking. Tampa Bay should be able to keep its playoff hopes alive, starting with a crucial win at Progressive Field tonight.

Best Bet: Rays +102

Where to Watch Cincinnati Reds vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Ballpark: Dodger Stadium
  • Location: Los Angeles, CA
  • Where to Watch: FDSOH, SportsNet LA, MLB Network
  • Time: 10:10 p.m. ET
  • Spread: LAD -1.5 | Total: 8
  • Moneyline: LAD -144 | CIN +122

The Los Angeles Dodgers ceded ground in the NL West, dropping two of three to the San Diego Padres over the weekend. They don’t have any time to lick their wounds, as Hunter Greene and the Cincinnati Reds await them on Monday.

LA’s offense went ice cold this weekend. The Dodgers put up just two runs across their first two games against the Friars before breaking out on Sunday. Sadly, we’re anticipating a quick regression in tonight’s series opener.

Greene is a top analytics arm. The hard-throwing righty sits in the 95th percentile in chase rate and 93rd percentile in strikeout percentage, contributing to his .369 expected slugging percentage and 2.75 expected ERA. With just three earned runs and 18 strikeouts across his last 12.1 innings pitched, Greene is operating at peak efficiency ahead of Monday’s clash versus the Dodgers.

The betting odds don’t reflect Cincinnati’s chances of claiming victory on Monday night. Greene is one of the most dominant pitchers in the NL, and we expect him to show as much in the series opener. Based on the current prices, this necessitates a play on the Reds.

Best Bet: Reds +122
