For years, the Toronto Blue Jays failed to live up to the hype. Then magically, partway through the 2025 season, it all came together for those frost-bitten bastards north of the border. The Jays head into their weekend set versus the Milwaukee Brewers with a decisive lead in the AL East. Still, Friday’s tilt could get away from the division-leading Jays.
Shane Bieber heads to the mound for Toronto. The former Cy Young winner pitched for the first time this season, twirling 6.0 innings of one-run ball. However, regression should hit quickly for Bieber versus the Brew Crew. Bieber has seen a steady increase in his underlying metrics, pinpointed to an expected slugging percentage above .446 in two of his last three seasons pitched. More concerningly, he gave up a 27.3% barrel rate versus the Marlins in his lone start.
Freddy Peralta continues to do things that only Cy Young winners can. He’s posted a 2.68 ERA and 1.10 WHIP this season, propped up by a solid analytics profile. The hard-throwing righty sits on the elite end of the spectrum in terms of whiff rate, expected batting average, and hard-hit rate.
Even the hard-hitting Blue Jays will have a hard time getting to Peralta. We don’t trust Bieber, and Toronto’s bullpen has shown signs of cracking, which amplifies the edge for Milwaukee. Brew Crew moneyline is the play.

Where to Watch Seattle Mariners vs. Cleveland Guardians
- Ballpark: Progressive Field
- Location: Cleveland, OH
- Where to Watch: Root Sports NW, CLEG, MLB Network
- Time: 7:10 p.m. ET
- Spread: SEA -1.5 | Total: 8
- Moneyline: SEA -154 | CLE +130
There’s no stopping the Seattle Mariners, who have cemented their position as postseason contenders in the American League. The Cleveland Guardians are on the outside looking in, but possess the pitching staff to limit the M’s in Friday’s series opener.
Pitching remains Cleveland’s most pronounced advantage. Logan Allen has been a reliable starter, posting a respectable 4.35 ERA and limiting opponents to two or fewer earned runs in four of his previous five starts. Additionally, the Guardians’ bullpen rates as one of the best in the bigs. Collectively, Cleveland relievers have combined for a 3.61 ERA, the fifth-best mark in the MLB.
George Kirby will be up to the task of limiting the Guardians’ typically quiet bats. The imposing righty has a 1.18 WHIP on the season and is pitching above his 3.78 expected ERA. Like Logan, Kirby has held opponents in check recently, giving up two or fewer runs in five of his last six.
Seattle’s lineup was transformed ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline, but they face a stiff challenge in The Forest City. Runs will be hard to come by for both teams, and that points to a low-scoring affair at Progressive Field. We are riding the under.

Where to Watch Los Angeles Angels vs. Houston Astros
- Ballpark: Daikin Park
- Location: Houston, TX
- Where to Watch: FDSW, SCHN
- Time: 8:10 p.m. ET
- Spread: HOU -1.5 | Total: 9
- Moneyline: HOU -178 | LAA +150
Two AL West foes renew acquaintances on Friday night, as the Houston Astros host the Los Angeles Angels. The Astros are installed as favorites, but we’re gravitating toward the value on the away side in this intra-divisional clash.
Cristian Javier has struggled since returning to the rotation a few weeks ago. The 28-year-old has given up eight runs (six earned) across 10.0 innings pitched. The more notable concern is the sheer amount of hard contact he’s giving up. So far, Javier has been torched for a 44.8% hard-hit rate with a 69.0% fly-ball rate. Those stats won’t play well against an Angels squad that ranks fourth in the MLB in home runs.
We are also anticipating bigger and better things from Tyler Anderson. The southpaw has seen a sharp increase in his ERA this month, putting him almost two full runs ahead of his expected ERA. He showed signs of improvement last time out, giving up two earned runs across 5.0 innings pitched, and a natural decline in his ERA is expected over his next few starts.
It’s been a tepid month for the Astros, who are slugging a below-average .398 with a corresponding decrease in their collective OPS. We’re not anticipating a surge in their metrics versus Anderson, who is a master at inducing soft contact. With that, we’re taking a stance on the Halos, predicting an upset victory versus their division rivals.
