Mariners vs. Mets: Sunday Night Baseball Same Game Parlay

Interleague games aren’t usually the priority for Sunday Night Baseball. Nevertheless, the rest of the MLB will be watching when these playoff contenders square off at Citi Field. The Seattle Mariners are fighting for their playoff lives while still trying to usurp the Houston Astros atop the AL West. Likewise, the New York Mets have given up ground to the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East and are hanging onto the final wild card spot by a thread.

Both teams desperately need the win. These are the bets we’re making in our Sunday Night Baseball Same Game Parlay!

Where to Watch Seattle Mariners vs. New York Mets

  • Ballpark: Citi Field
  • Location: Queens, NY
  • Where to Watch: ESPN
  • Time: 7:10 p.m. ET
  • Spread: SEA -1.5 | Total: 8.5
  • Moneyline: SEA -124 | NYM +106

Leg 1: Under 8.5

Runs were plentiful in the series opener, with these teams combining for 20 runs in a Mariners’ victory. However, production should be severely limited with George Kirby and Clay Holmes on the bump.

Kirby has been sensational of late. The M’s probable starter has given up just four earned runs across his previous four starts. Over that stretch, Kirby has compiled a stunning 1.44 ERA and 0.92 WHIP, with all four of his appearances registering as quality starts.

While Clay Holmes is coming off his worst start of the season, that was a departure from his recent form. In his previous three starts, the veteran righty had given up a combined five earned runs, limiting all three opponents to two runs or fewer. Expect him to find that form early versus the Mariners.

Both pitchers wield electric stuff, which will undoubtedly be a factor in tonight’s interleague battle. We’re taking a firm stance on the under, expecting runs to be at a premium in this one.

Leg 2: George Kirby to Record 8+ Strikeouts +470

As noted, George Kirby has been at his best in recent starts — a fact that is also reflected in his strikeout metrics. We’re counting on another K-laden performance against an increasingly impatient Mets squad.

Kirby has extracted maximum value from his arsenal in recent starts. The imposing righty has struck out 31 batters across his last four starts, for a dynamite 11.2 K/9 rate. Moreover, he’s eclipsed nine strikeouts in two of those contests, and has an analytics profile propping up sustained success in the short term.

Specifically, Kirby is one of the best in the bigs at getting opposing hitters to swing outside the zone. His 31.5% chase rate puts him in the 85th percentile, which is complemented by his above-average 26.5% whiff rate. Naturally, we should see sustained success in the pitcher-friendly confines of Citi Field.

The Mets have abandoned their typically disciplined approach at the plate, striking out 43 times across their last five games. With Kirby expected to dazzle again on Sunday, we can’t overlook the value on this enticing strikeout prop.

Leg 3: Randy Arozarena to Record 2+ Bases +120

The Mariners’ deadline acquisitions have lightened the load for the rest of their roster, forcing the playoff hopefuls to retool their lineup. One player who has seen a shift in responsibilities is Randy Arozarena, who has been moved into the leadoff role for the Seattle Mariners.

Before the deadline, Arozarena was a pillar in the heart of the Mariners’ order. However, since then, Randy has been batting leadoff, which has precipitated an increase in opportunities at the plate. While the results have been mixed, there are a few factors indicating a potential return to success in this area.

First off, Arozarena is a threat every time he steps to the plate. With 21 hits over his last 22 games, the former Rookie of the Year has become one of Seattle’s most reliable hitters. Further, he’s recorded at least two bases in six of his previous 13 contests.

Sitting below his expected batting average and slugging percentage, Randy is primed to continue his assault on Clay Holmes and the Mets’ bullpen. There’s value in several of his props, but we like the plus-money offering in backing Arozarena to record at least two bases.

Mariners vs. Mets: Sunday Night Baseball Same Game Parlay Picks +1999

  • Under 8.5 -105
  • George Kirby to Record 8+ Strikeouts +470
  • Randy Arozarena to Record 2+ Bases +120

We’ve got three plus-EV picks lined up for our Sunday Night Baseball Same Game Parlay. We’ve got a piece of the under, Kirby to record eight or more strikeouts, and Arozarena to record two or more bases for a potential payout of +1999.
